We represent people all across the state of North Carolina who have been injured. That may not sound so unique, but the way we go about it is. Our law firm is dedicated to our mission “seek justice, give generously and love lavishly.” We are comprised of lawyers who have been recognized by their peers for their ethics and their excellence. We have been named to “Best Law Firms in America” by US News and World Report for more than a decade. Our lawyers have served with distinction across North Carolina. Our founder, attorney Janet Ward Black, has served as the president of both the North Carolina Bar Association and the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers. Only two lawyers in North Carolina history have served as president of both organizations. The awards and distinctions we have received are in large part because of how we treat our clients and how we treat our community.

We will serve you, our client, like we would our mothers.
Many of our staff have been with the firm for more than 20 years. Our staff is caring, competent, and conscientious. Along with our lawyers, our staff will make sure that no stone is left unturned in your case and that you, the client, understand the process and always get your questions answered. It is critically important that we be good listeners for our clients, and we are dedicated to that end.

We get results for our clients. And if we don’t? We don’t get paid.
For over 30 years, our lawyers have represented many thousands of clients successfully, helping improve those individuals’ lives by getting compensation for them. This representation includes more than a thousand individuals injured in car wrecks and at work, more than 1,300 individuals who were diagnosed with diseases from asbestos, and more than 2,000 individuals who have been harmed by dangerous products including faulty medical devices and recalled drugs.
We can handle extremely complicated cases against very sophisticated, well-financed corporations. We relish the opportunity to help the “Davids” of the world effectively fight “Goliath.” We help level the playing field- whether it’s between an injured driver in a wreck against a multi-billion dollar insurance company or a person who has developed cancer as a result of a corporate giant’s bad actions.
In virtually every case, we work on a contingency basis. What does that mean? That means that we are not paid for our work by the hour. We do not send clients a bill for our work as it goes forward. If they win their case, our fee is a percentage paid out of the money awarded to them. The benefit to our clients is that if they do not win, they don’t owe money for attorney fees. We think this is an incredibly fair system since many of us could not afford to pay for a lawyer by the hour to resolve our important legal matters.
At Ward Black Law, we believe in going the extra mile, just as Matthew 5:41 calls us to do. As a Christian law firm, our faith shapes the way we serve, from praying with clients when welcomed to walking alongside them with compassion and care. We never forget that while a case may be one of many in our office, for the person living it, it is deeply personal and often life-changing. That is why we strive to treat every client with the attention, dignity, and heart they deserve.
We are committed to being good to our employees. We are aware of how daily life can affect them including child care, looking after a sick parent, or even when school lets out early because of snow. We do everything we can to make their employment experience a good one. In return, we believe that they care for our clients the same way that we seek to care for them. We spend more than forty hours a week together. We have fun together, enjoying activities such as celebrating birthdays, baby showers, and eating meals together.
We serve together in our community on projects like volunteering to pack backpacks of food for school children living in poverty, singing Christmas carols for the residents of a nursing home, and collecting care packages for people with cancer. As we would with family, we are dedicated to caring for each other, to growing in our legal and leadership skills, and to being the best we can be individually and collectively.
